From March 26 to July 31, 2016, “The Future of Fashion is Now” will be presented at OCT Art and Design Gallery in Shenzhen. The show wasorganized  by OCT Art and Design Gallery and DutchCulture, coordinated by Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, The Pin Projects, the Consulate of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Guangzhou, and the Guangzhou Academy of Fine Arts, and curated by José Teunissen, Feng Feng, and Liu Gang. Thirty-five artists and designers from thirteen countries presented new, avant-garde fashions from around the world in the form of clothing installations and displays, films, and photographs. The exhibition included the designers of well-known international brands, such as Viktor & Rolf, Martin Margiela, and Lucy + Jorge Orta, as well as new designers, such as Iris van Herpen, who are consciously re-shaping the fashion system. The exhibition was shown in Shanghai and Shenzhen. This was the second important international culture and art exchange event, organized by the OCT Art and Design Gallery and DutchCulture after “Basic Instincts: Dutch Fashion in Context” (2012). This exhibition hopes to join China’s two capitals of design to build a platform for interacting with international experimental fashion and art. This was the first collaboration between OCT Art and Design Gallery, China’s first museum devoted to design, and Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen, one of the top art collections in the Netherlands. In Shanghai, this exhibition was an important part of the Dutch court’s state visit to China, because the show opened with a few words from Queen Máxima of the Netherlands. The exhibition was also presented in Shenzhen, featuring treasures from the Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen and outstanding examples of design from Asian, European, and South American designers and artists from OCT Art and Design Gallery. This show presented an experimental language that has been internationally recognized in the realms of global fashion, art, and design. In addition, five outstanding southern Chinese clothing designers were chosen for the Han Nefkens Fashion on the Edge program and commissioned to make new designs that would present a fresh, local perspective.
